Review of The Searchers (1956) by Paul W — 12 May 2012
I love this movie. I watched it because it made #1 Western according to AFI and, boy, were they right. John Wayne is superb as the anti-hero Ethan Edwards and Ward Bond gives us the pastor/Ranger a perfect paradox of attitude and philosophy which persists today.
Natalie Wood is gorgeous in her short appearance, but not nearly so as the cinematography. It's not Texas, but my God it is beautiful. Martin is a bit annoying as a character, but that's more than made up for by the enigma Edwards played beautifully by John Wayne.
God bless John Wayne.
