Review of The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973) by Carl N — 23 Sep 2009
This is the dire follow up to Dracula A.D. 1972. Although they kept it set in modern day, gone is the campy groovy feel. This is played out as a cop mystery-thriller. Dracula has become a big businessman and wants to destroy the world with a deadly virus.
Even if it is conceivably the most original Dracula tale? The problem I found with this entry is that it is slow moving. I?m kept waiting for something to happen. Christopher Lee gets less time on screen than normal but when he does pop up he looks so bored with the whole thing anyway.
Cushing is solid as always. I can only recommend this to true Hammer fans who might want to see it just for the sake of it being the Last of Hammers Dracula?s.
