Review of The Sapphires (2012) by Jason W — 29 Mar 2013
The Sapphires is a great addition to the Australian film landscape of "musical-film" and is inspiring in its heartfelt depiction of "womens-business", something us "white-fellas" will never understand.
I wonder though if this remains better as a stage piece rather than a film, but still found my toes tapped and my heart warmed. The production was a bit lack-lustre - especially the Vietnam scenes, and the script could have offered much more to build on the relationships between the characters, but all in all it is another fine example of Australian cinema.
