Review of The Santa Clause (1994) by Aaron C — 16 Oct 2009

One of the classic Christmas movies from my generation, The Santa Clause is a great family film that brings a new and fresh idea to the idea of Santa Clause.

It is about this man Scott Calvin(Tim Allen), who has just divorced his wife, and is currently sharing custody of their child. Scott Calvin is a business man who works for a very prestigous business, and has always put work before everything(which is why he ultimately got divorced), and isn't exactly the "kid" type. Well, he better learn how to be the kid type, as he is taking care of his little boy Charlie for Christmas Eve this year.

But then, after Charlie hears a noise on the roof, he goes over to his dad to tell him, and reluctantly, Scott Calvin eventually goes up to see what is the matter(because he heard such a clatter!). He discovers a man in a red suit with a white beard, Scott startles the man(Santa Clause), and the man falls of the roof. He goes down to investigate, and discovers that the man is dead. Charlie insists that he killed Santa Clause, but Scott is just saying it's a coincidence, and it was an accident. Then, the man vanishes, with just his red suit and his red hat being left behind. They hear another noise on the roof, a grunting noise, Scott and Charlie go to investigate, and to their surprise, they find a sleigh of reindeer, guess who has to finish Santa Clauses' job? That's right, Mr. Scott Calvin is the new Santa Clause.

I have been watching this movie every year around the holidays ever since I was 7 or 8(when I first saw it), whether I watch it on DVD or if it's on TV. Tim Allen was also excellent in the movie.

A movie that will have plenty of laughs(due to the charming performance of Allen) for both kids and adults to enjoy. A movie that will warm your heart, and maybe, just for a moment, make you believe in Santa Clause.
