Review of The Sand Pebbles (1966) by Ben K — 31 Mar 2008
Steve McQueen was one of the coolest cats in the history of American awesomeness. He's the reason why they started selling pea coats to the general public. This man could take a grey sweatshirt, a pair of chinos, and some sperry topsiders and make them look bad as hell.
Certainly one of Steve McQueen's pantheon performances. Apparently Robert Wise wanted to make this movie so badly he agreed to make some fluff musical while waiting for the budget. (The musical was the Sound of Music.
) really Downbeat ending makes for a nice comparison to vietnam although that's not what the filmakers intended.
