Review of The Sand Pebbles (1966) by Harry W — 29 Apr 2016
Adventure and epic are the words I'd use to describe this Navy film based on the book. It has a grand plot with some some uneasy political climate of 1960's China, with some shocking deaths and brutality in the war scenes that do happen.
The cast is amazing, with a rebellious and stoic Steve McQueen as Jake Holman. Others backing him up are Attenborough and Richard Crenna, and a few others. Its a very well done movie with a great cast and production design.
