Review of The Sacrifice (1986) by Little B — 26 Nov 2012
Lots of long, long takes done without showiness or ostentation, just pure cinematic competence. In the hands of a master, cuts are a tool of choice, not camouflage for missing shots and sloppy structure.
The story, a gathering followed by reactions the imminent end of the world, is mirrored years later in von Trier's MALANCHOLIA. Neither was entirely successful for me. Both are interesting experiments by tremendously accomplished filmmakers.
