Review of The Sacrifice (1986) by Benjamin J — 31 Jan 2010
If you watch a Tarkovsky movie then you know that you are about to see 1) something long and slow paced with plenty of heavy dialogue and long protracted silences, and 2) several hours of film making where no single shot is accidental or without hours of careful preparation.
The Sacrifice contains some of the most beautifully stunning shots ever committed to film. Even if it isn't the most enthralling drama you could ever see, each shot draws you in like wandering through a gallery of the greatest works of art ever seen.
Not his best, but still jaw droppingly beautiful to watch. Turn your eyes on, point your head at the screen and let the meditation begin.
