Review of The Sacrifice (1986) by Johan S — 21 Oct 2011
In my opinion, the least of Tarkovsky's "future" trilogy. The plot is flawed, and the filming just the least bit inconsistent; this is perhaps the only Tarkovsky film (for me, at least) where the director's unique style becomes somewhat tiring by the time the credits roll. However, there are still some very influential and meditative sequences about the nature of destruction, sequences that find beauty in ruin and peace in war; suggesting that violence and man's unabashed passion for demolishing what he has created is something that will forever exist, and the saner portion of the population will have to endure.
8.8.
