Review of The Russia House (1990) by Jack W — 12 Aug 2010
Not your usual take on the spy thriller, this film employs the Hitchcock technique of a Macguffin. Seemingly about spies and their espionage the story really revolves around the love between Connery and Pfeiffer.
In fact I feel the direction follows the Hitchcock style very well. There are many shots that resemble Hitch's style and the overall cinematography is great. Their are thematic elements that resonate throughout the film much like Hitch would follow.
The performances by Connery and Pfeiffer are great. The only knock is that the pacing is rather slow but often that is refreshing to see. Great film.
