Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by Tyson H — 19 Feb 2013
Suck it down hard and enjoy the ride. If not a completely 'buyable' storyline, this is a serviceable product primarily produced for the sake of the late, great Hunter S. Thompson, who imagined a sprawling paradise, free from the succubus of big business and corporate greed; of the tyrannical attitude Americans had towards any beachfront property south of Destin.
Add in the beauty of Connecticut-born Cheneault (Amber Heard) and the breezy humor of virtually everyone else in the frame, and you've got an S. Thompson classic. Any detractor of this film either didn't read the book, or didn't fully grasp The Rum Diary's contents.
