The sort of movie you might stumble into halfway through and end up sticking with because it ambles in a genial way. Or you could turn it off and not really have any nagging feelings about what happened.

Johnny Depp is best when he's channeling Hunter S. Thompson (which comes and goes), whose story this is, and otherwise he's the blank slate of yore, passively registering reactions to the chaos around him.

The movie takes place in Puerto Rico, Aaron Eckhart plays the smarmy counterpoint, and there's a love interest whose scenes contain all the bum notes. The picture was surprisingly directed by Bruce Robinson of Withnail and I fame, who hasn't seemed to have done much in the interim.
