What can I say, it's my favorite movie ever. For anyone who has ever struggled with a dad who didn't beat them or do anything really bad outside of just being an asshole, Royal Tenenbaum might just be the character who gives you the fondest memories of the old bastard. Wonderfully written by Wilson and Anderson, it is the very definition quirky dark comedy. As far as Anderson's directing, well, Mr. Anderson is in a class reserved only for the greats. Every scene looks like a moving painting. Take note you film geeks when watching that Anderson refused to use any steady cams on the picture, instead going for the dolley wheneven possible to give the picture that "painted" look. Anderson is also the master of meticulous detail and balance and you will also find this in each and every shot. I would pick a stanout performance, but all of the performances stand out as all of the actors are in top form. And even though he just narrates and doesn't appear, I could not imagine this movie without the brilliant Alec Baldwin. If you have or have ever had any taste, not just in film but taste in general, watch this film.
