Review of The Rose Tattoo (1955) by Steve S — 03 Aug 2009
*** (out of four).
Not one of the great Tennessee Williams film versions, but thanks to a very good performance from Anna Mangnani, it is lifted.
In her Oscar-winning role Magnani is a Italian-American widow who has withdrawn from life. Then a trucker (Burt Lancaster) comes into her life.
The film is all Magnani. Lancaster, unforntunately, nearly ruins the picture with his over-the-top, annoying performance.
