Review of The Rose (1979) by Garett T — 16 Sep 2008
Quite satisfying, actually. It starred Bette Midler in the title role, which didn't necessarily attract me to the film, but she did a decent job portraying a singer resembling Janis Joplin, earning an Oscar nomination in the process.
What I liked about the film was that it showed that she was never alone for long, even when she abandoned by one person or the next. It also never put her with people that could help her drug and alcohol use, which led to the ultimate tragedy...
Still very enjoyable, with great colorful cinematography of her concerts and singing from the Bette herself to top it off.
