Review of The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone (1961) by Robert P — 29 Mar 2009
Surprisingly dark and weighty look at how an aging actress struggles to find meaning in life and love. Relentless in its cynical take on Rome and Roman men, it deals openly with subjects like male prositution and cross generational sex which must have been unusual when it was made.
Interesting to see the male subject to the gaze of desire and we watch his frustrated reaction. Great ending. I wonder what the remake was like.
