Review of The River Wild (1994) by Michael C — 11 Sep 2007
Curtis Hanson is a quality director. Meryl Streep is a goddess. It is absolutely ridiculous. No trace of any other screen character I have seen. Strathairn offers a perfect counter example. Although he is a fine actor that has put in numerous excellent performances over the years, one can still see elements of himself and the rest of the characters in his portrayal here.
The setting is amazingly beaurtiful. I've never seen a river like this depicted in a feature Hollywood film. Minus Streep and the river the rating would be much lower, but Hanson has two stars it is very tough to beat and he uses them well.
