Review of The Revenant (2015) by Mariam J — 23 Apr 2016
The high numbers for this film shows just how far we've come as a nation who not only tolerates but appreciates senseless, meaningless violence in it's most gory visual detail. I gave this three stars because DiCaprio acted his a** off and for no other reason would I grant a single one.
.. the scenery...while great is not brilliant as some claim and in no way compensation for visually assaulting an audience. To me there have ever only been two reasons to make a film; one, is to make a lasting though provoking point - but here, there is no point to most of what happens on screen and as for the second reason; I can only say, that if you are a person who delights in animal decapitation rape, and derives voyeuristic pleasure from brutal malling of a human being-Congratulations you have now officially de-evolved into a lesser animal form, in which case, this is your film! I applaud your stomach but not your taste or your sensibilities.
