Review of The Revenant (2015) by Cork B — 21 Jul 2018
I liked this film. It was suspenseful, well acted, and great cinematography.
That said, I had some issues with the film:
1) deviated WILDLY from Hugh Glass' actual story. I guess the guy got mauled by a bear, but that was about it. I get you want to drama it up, but then change the names and don't say it has any basis in fact.
2) I am PRETTY sure all that stuff can't happen to a guy and he still lives, unless he is Luke Cage. I mean, when DiCaprio fell off the Titanic in freezing water, he died in like 2 minutes. I guess he took swimming lessons and can now tolerate hours and hours of it.
3) Chief 'not without my daughter' seemed REALLY intent on killing that party of white guys that had NO women in the group. Better to arrow them in the face so we can... extract the information later? Huh? Let's also track the one guy that broke away from the main party - I am sure HE has my daughter. And extract the information with the tried and true 'arrow-to-the-face' method.
There were other minor issues like Captain Ginger trusting Tom Hardy in the first place. Also, I am not a DiCaprio fan, despite the fact that he does a good job here.
