Review of The Revenant (2015) by Dexter D — 31 May 2016
One of the most beautiful films I have seen. Alejandro González Iñárritu is one of the greatest directors of our time, with possibly the best eye for detail in the industry. The acting is absolutely top notch with the stand-outs being Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Poulter and Tom Hardy and the cinematography is absolutely breathtaking. Using natural light was a genius decision and it really paid off giving the film a unique edge to it's beauty.
The only issues with this movie however is that it definitely could have used a bit more time in the editing room; there are a few too many scenes that could have been shortened down which would have made the runtime feel quite a bit neater. Also a few of the dream sequences can come across as slightly pretentious, however that is a very small gripe.
