Review of The Revenant (2015) by Kelly K — 04 Nov 2016
I'd recently read the book which this film is based upon and presumed it was a standard adaptation but it seems that is only partly inspired by the novel of the same name and it turns out that it is no bad thing.
The book is a brilliant read but I felt it wouldn't adapt well into film and despite my love for the book I would say in this rare instance, I enjoyed the film even more. The first thing that hits you when watching this is the cinematography which is absolutely stunning and truly immerses you in the harsh environment the central character finds himself in.
This isn't just a story of revenge but also survival in the most extreme of circumstances, whether it be in harsh weather conditions or in a brutal fight to the death with an angry bear. All of the players in the film were on top form and I felt the ending was a lot more satisfying than the book.
Would certainly watch again.
