Review of The Revenant (2015) by Tristan M — 30 Jul 2016
This movie caught my attention long before a trailer or real cover art was even out, and I wants disappointed when it finally hit theatres. Leo had been looking for his Oscar for a long time, and deserved it long before this one came out, but it's great that this is the one that will be remembered for just that.
Tom Hardy is the only other face I could out a name to in the cast, however they all did a fantastic job with their acting, and putting up with the elements. From beginning to end this movie is non stop.
The first action scene seems to be one whole shot, without cuts for minutes, a feat in itself to coordinate and record such an epic bloodbath of violence and sparing the audience nothing. The bear attack was incredible to watch, and again was just simply crazy it looked so real and brutal that even after watching a second time your still on the edge of your seat.
The last duel was intense and desperate for both sides, and the kick, stab, axe combination again with no cuts for minutes in the filming is incredible to watch. The cinematography is beautiful and combined with the dark and simple score just made it all so bleak and epic in pre portions.
I have a hard time describing good movies, yet this one I can just because of the magnitude of how good it is, and how everyone is done just perfectly. Best film of the year, best actor of the year, best filing and cinematography and best action scenes for the year in my opinion without competition.
