Review of The Revenant (2012) by Allan C — 07 Mar 2013
A generally agreeable twist on bloodsuckers, this vampire-horror-comedy-romance has a resurrected Iraq War vet (David Anders) needing human claret to prevent decomposition. Funkadelic acting, relatable leads and enjoyably off-centre scenes form a great first half, but an overlong third act loses the plot (queasy laughs tend too far toward the queasy).
A sci-fi-infused denouement rekindles interest but the coda, while striving to be subversive, is ultimately unconvincing.
