Review of The Resident (2011) by Ceph J — 27 Mar 2011
This is "Fatal Attraction" to showcase Hilary Swank's gorgeous physique and that men will kill to sleep with her. The initial 20 minutes starts off routine and I was actually thinking of Polanski's "The Tenant." Once the movie switches to Max's (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) perspective, the movie takes a dive. The last half hour is preposterous and who cares about a duel between a charming psychopath and egotistical female.
The lesson is to be careful about renting a huge apartment in NY for a bargain price when you can rent a small studio without lunatics. I feel sorry for Christopher Lee as August and Lee Pace as Jack, not acting roles you'd want on your resume. The only interesting character is Aunjanue Ellis as Swank's BFF but she's in two minor scenes. One is left to ponder how Swank could produce this junk movie and where her career is headed. Even the title is wrong, it should be called "The Creep.".
