Review of The Rescuers (1977) by Brian B — 22 Apr 2010
THE GOOD.
- Excellent soundtrack! I love 70s music. :) It's really different from typical Disney fare. I also like how they knew when to cut to silence when needed, too.
- Engaging story; no Disney movie so far has gotten me this excited to see what happens next!
- The two mice, Bernard and Bianca, are surprisingly more human than any Disney human, with possibly more chemistry than Beauty and the Beast. Two really classy and loveable characters.
- The rest of the animal cast are likable too, especially Orville and Rufus.
THE BAD.
I *hated* the humans:
- Penny is too overly cute to the point of annoying, with a toddler doing the poorly acted voice work.
- The villain is so over-the-top, her scenes hurt my IQ.
- Her bumbling assistant, two bumbling crocodiles and quest for the super-diamond piled on more brain damage. These characters just don't fit in such a mellow-feeling movie.
THE INTERESTING.
Nothing noteworthy.
