Review of The Remains of the Day (1993) by Isabella M — 03 Jan 2008
It needs a second viewing. Having only watched it once, I can say it's well done but not always particularly interesting. Scenes are framed nicely and there's an interesting use of color. The acting is very good.
Hopkins and Thompson use facial expressions and body language to really tell the story. As nice as the use of language is, the story is really told nonverbally. I didn't realize until the end of the film what it was really about.
I am sure during a second viewing I will appreciate it much more. I would recommend everyone to see it and encourage to watch it to the end even if the beginning does not grab you.
