Review of The Relic (1997) by Bryan W — 23 Mar 2009
There's something about genre movies from the 90's that never cease to amaze me. This film is representative of a time when movies had relatively smart scripts with decently drawn characters and still relied on both physical effects and CG, but audiences managed to instantly forget about them.
No one will put this on a list of legendary horror films, but it satisfies with the literate script, decent actors, excellent tone (thanks to the score and cinematography), visceral gore, and wonderfully managed special effects.
A must-see for anyone who's tired of what the 2000's have done to mainstream horror.
