Review of The Red Badge of Courage (1951) by Vern B — 19 Jun 2008
How depressing. Due to a debate in the editing room, the film ended up losing around two hours of footage. I would love to see the unedited version if it were possible. John Huston does a wonderful job here and you can tell he is thinking wide screen with this piece.
The film is pretty faithful to the novel (as much as it could), yet the narration is a really big set back. Performances are solid and the battle scenes are fantastic. But the cuts really destroyed the film.
