Review of The Raven (2012) by Nathan C — 21 Oct 2012
Interesting concept, but the film ends up being blood-boilingly... dull. Visually sleek and sticks to its period in looks and mannerisms. John Cusack isn't so strong of a dramatic lead, but fares better than expected here.
.. better than the wooden supporting cast. The storyline is tossed out in favor of creative kills and some attempts at thrilling action scenes... and it shows with a lack of investment in its mystery (Exhibit A: the weak twist).
If you want a good detective movie, stick with "Se7en" (which is a hell of a lot scarier) or "Sherlock Holmes". This review will be expanded upon in the near future...
