Review of The Raven (2012) by Jake B — 07 Nov 2012
Terrific film, clever and intellectual script. The viewer comes across mind-bending twists and eerie, macabre killings inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's stories. John Cusack as Poe does a superb job, and once the murders are discovered, a Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) is called to investigate and find the person responsible for the murders.
Along with Poe, both embark on a race against time to save Poe's love Emily (Alice Eve) who was kidnapped by the killer and bring him to justice. For fans of Sherlock Holmes, oh boy you are in for a delectable treat! BRAVO to the cast and crew of RAVEN! I love, love this type of motion picture.
Forces you to THINK, ANALYZE, study clues to guide you along this dangerous and dark path. Also for Edgar Allan Poe fans, this is a must see film. I admit Poe's work was dark, sad, so lugubrious but as long as you remember that light counteracts darkness, you will be fine.
This is merely a journey, a two hour journey into one man's dark tales. The masquerade ball was so interesting, the costumes, setting, script, oh my gosh everything was superb! The only reason I failed to award five stars was due to its ending.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
