Review of The Raven (2012) by Remi L — 10 Nov 2012
Its Sherlock Holmes with maybe a fraction of the humor and LOADS more violence and gore. It was entertaining, if not gruesome but not all that exciting. The Raven is the story of a serial killer paying "tribute" to Edgar Allen Poe by murdering random people and staging them in the likeness of Poe's famous stories and poems.
Poe is a struggling albeit famous writer who teams up with the police to try to figure this psychopath out before its too late. This movie is a Poe fan's dream because it reminisces and touches on his works a little.
I personally was a fan of his love interest, Emily who actually has a personality and provides a LITTLE more than just decoration. Luke Evans (The Three Musketeers) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster) also provide some eye candy.
Other than that, you've got pretty yet gloomy 19th century Baltimore scenery. And my favorite part, funny enough? A description of Poe from another character, "Its like God gave the man a gift and then quenched it in misery.
" Poe's not the only poet in the film.
