Review of The Raven (2012) by Kevin C — 03 Feb 2013
This was not good. Not even from a "bad" horror movie standpoint. The marvelous play my wife and I saw in October puts this Hollywood production to shame. The man playing Edgar Allen Poe in that Puts John Cusack to shame.
For starters, John Cusack really comes across as the wrong choice to play Poe. I get that they were going for a more "realistic" portrayal of the man, but he couldn't even get the accent right. Was Poe really this much of an arrogant, drunken, jerk? I don't know. But it sure as heck doesn't make for a good movie character.
The story is all over the place, and rarely makes any sense. This is a bummer, because I love a good horror mystery along the lines of Seven.
The movie looked appropriately dark and dreary, but that's about the only positive I can come up with. Stay away from this one.
