Review of The Raven (2012) by James O — 09 Feb 2013
As a Poe fan this film annoyed me. Not because of historical inaccuracies, but because it seems to have no sense or real understanding of Poe's stories. Cusack is tolerable, but not real convincing.
A love interest lacks any real motivation for why this young babe would be attracted to a broke 40 year old writer. The film contrives Poe's mysterious death with the film's plot and fails badly at it.
The screen writers had about a cliff's note worth of understanding of Poe or his fiction. The best thing about the film is Luke Evans performance as Detective Fields.
