Review of The Raven (2012) by Dr. F P — 15 Sep 2013
Oh! How disappointing! With such an interesting premise and my love of John Cusack & Poe what could have gone wrong? The reveal of the killer towards the end had to be the most uneventful and sadly ANNOYING reveal i've ever seen, as if we should have KNOWN it was him.
WHAT THE FUCK? Suddenly we're confronted with a colleague we had LITTLE IDEA existed before and we're supposed to gasp in shock "IT WAS HIM!!?" Hmm. The Raven isn't particularly tense and if it were not for it's sharp pace and sometimes interesting visual ideas it would quickly become tiresome.
I can't complain about the acting and I have NO IDEA if this Edgar is anything like the real life one. Also some of the dialogue sounded a little too modern for the mid 1800s. Overall The Raven is worth a look for those who like Poe and that time period as well as John Cusack.
None of the other cast members really stood out for me. It has some great stylistic elements and I love the raccoon but the investigation seemed too rushed and not as interesting or tense as it should have been.
