Review of The Rains Came (1939) by Allan C — 02 Jan 2017
A rather stilted love story and a badly cast Tyrone Power are overcome by some striking visuals and some very good special effects. Power plays a doctor from India and Loy plays a woman married to a much older rich man who spends most of the film trying to seduce Power.
Low points of the film are Power playing a non-white character and a real lack of chemistry between him an Loy. High points of the film are an earthquake sequences and the floods of the fictional city of Ranchipur.
Loy and the excellent production values make this one worth watching.
