Review of The Railway Man (2013) by Beth J — 03 May 2014
Liked it but the story was too obvious to hold my interest for extended periods. Splitting the story into a later life episode with its retrospect on the POW experience and flashbacks actually interferes with the film's development.
Nicloe Kidman's performance was wasted on a part that any talented actress could accomplish. I'd suspect that the book was much better and left on the shelf rather than bring it to the screen.
Another disturbing part was the obligatory Hollywood epilogue that tries to tie up the loose ends for the viewer that asks "I wonder what happened after that?".
