Review of The Raid 2 (2014) by Christian M — 11 May 2014
What happens when you rev-up a blood soaked, streamlined martial arts tour de force to 11? Berandal. Berandal is what happens. Improving on virtually every aspect of its sister film, The Raid 2 shows me that Evans and his associates (especially Uwais and Ruhian) will be mainstays of the genre for years, if not decades, to come.
I can't wait to see what this team can conjure up next; if it's anything like the jump from the first Raid to the second, we can expect new, heated debates on censorship of violence in film, if nothing else.
What is most likely, though, is a new standard being set in the world of martial arts action, which anyone can agree is a boon to an otherwise hit-or-miss field.
