Review of The Quiet Man (1952) by Kim S — 07 May 2009
This is not only my all time favorite film (for extremely personal reasons), but I happen to think it was John Wayne & Maureen O'Hara's BEST film in both their careers. In none of their other films do I get a sense of true being and reality of characters.
Some of that can be accredited to the writing, but this film feels real. Watch it and you'll understand what I mean. You can tell that everyone from the director down to the last grip did their jobs correctly.
When I'm missing a place that I love very much and my memories aren't as fresh as they used to be, I pop this DVD in and relive a time beyond time. It was shot so beautifully that there are times it has a dreamlike quality.
I can almost see Sean Thornton and Mary Kate Danaher walking together through the fields. I can almost smell the Heather. THIS is a film that will give the future something to think about.
