A retired American boxer returns to the Irish village where he was born and finds love. A poignant vision of period rural Ireland, The Quiet Man's influence is still felt in today's representation of Irish landscape particularly in American productions.

It does have its flaws, particularly in its less then credible plot and an approach much too focused on nostalgia than anything else. But while it may not be the best Ford and Wayne collaboration, though it is one of the most popular and loved, it benefits from stunning cinematography that really takes in the beauty of the landscape and gives the whole production a magical and characteristic air of majesty.
