Review of The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) by Justin A — 13 Mar 2009
This was a small and fun Woody Allen film that says a lot about the state our country is currently in. It's a depression-era film that centers around Cecilia (Mia Farrow), a woman who only wishes everything could be just like in the movies. It has it's mixtures of drama and comedy while being categorized as a fantasy. Mia Farrow is amazing, as usual, she delivers and makes you believe she is who she's playing.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film from beginning to end, though now wish it was longer than 82 minutes. It felt like a small slight effort from Woody Allen, one of his completely enjoyable movies, but not as big and as important as others, especially since he made "Hannah and Her Sisters" the next year.
