Review of The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) by Tatiana V — 15 Jul 2010
"in new jersey, anything can happen...!".
Woody Allen's humor and imagination is so admirable, he never ceases to amaze me. This is a funny, romantic and charming comedy with a lot of style and originality. In one aspect, it shows how cinema meant to people in the depression period; but in a deeper layer it has this message that cinema shouldn't be the way to run away from life's problems, as it gives the inspiration to follow a whole new path.
And I think it's true for all the other time periods.
Like I said, beneath the fancy surface of this film there's a lot more to think and discuss.
