Review of The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) by Jonathan K — 19 Mar 2008
The simplicity of this romantic comedy by Woody Allen is superb! A depression-era woman (Mia Farrow) goes to see the movie of the film's title so many times, the leading actor (Jeff Daniels) walks off the screen to engage in a romantic affair.
The best parts are the remaining cast on the silver screen as they discuss the missing actor and argue about the necessity of the character.
