Review of The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) by Claudia B — 17 Nov 2010
The Purple Rose of Cairo is a simple enough premise. A woman sees the same film so many times that one of the characters steps out to ask her why. It makes you think why no one thought of it before 1985.
Thankfully, though, Woody Allen beat them all to it, and in this film he able to show both his serious and his comedic side. With an ending that is believable and leaves you begging for more, this is certainly one of Allen;s greatest creations, if not his best.
