Review of The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) by Bill S — 15 Apr 2015
As a huge fan of Woody Allen, especially movies like "Manhattan", "Midnight In Paris", and "Annie Hall". So to say the least "Purple Rose of Cairo" felt like a pretty big deviation from the films.
That's not to say that Auteur Theory doesn't hold true in the film. You can easily see his influence on the film, especially with his creation of a female version of himself using Mia Farrow. I guess part of the problem for me was the fact that Jeff Daniels was in the film.
He did a good job; I just couldn't get over seeing him as an idiot in "Dumb and Dumber". The premise was awesome, and the plot was decent, I just couldn't find myself falling in love with the film.
