Review of The Purge (2013) by Jeremiah P — 30 Jun 2014
The Purge is a movie that taught me to make sure that I raise my kids to be smart in serious situations so they won't be like these idiotic kids. In this film, there's a holiday once a year where crime is legal. You can do anything you want including murder. So, a family named James and Mary Sadin (Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey) lock their house completely so no one will break in. That is, until their stupid son lets a stranger in which results in more people breaking into their house and trying to kill them. Now this film isn't god awful, but it's still a really stupid film. Some of the good parts of the movie were the performances by Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey but everything else was just downright stupid. First, who thought of holiday that once a year you can kill anybody you want? Who thought of that stupid idea? Why can't it be once every 20 years, so that some people won't feel terrible after killing someone? Also, the kids in this film were just complete idiots. The son was cringe worthy. If it wasn't for his idiotic decision they wouldn't be in this really bad situation. The daughter is equally stupid in this film. She just walks way from the family when a bunch psychotic people are trying to kill them. There's a huge plot twist in this movie that's supposed to be surprising but honestly I found really stupid and it could've been left out of the entire movie. Like I said this movie wasn't a cinematic nightmare but the was still ridiculously stupid. Let's hope the sequel will be a bit better.
Grade:C-.
