Review of The Purge (2013) by Jacob B — 19 Oct 2018
You know, this movie would've been a whole lot better if we actually got a true taste of what the Purge is like rather than be a home-invasion thriller that's much dumber than it thinks it is. The movie holds up well performance-wise, the premise sounds potentially interesting if painfully implausible (yeah sure, just one night of crime a year being legalized is going to decrease unemployment rates to 1%.
Also good thing banks, shops and whatnot don't exist in this world. Why is murder the only option? At least place your targets on people you don't like personally) and some of "action" for lack of a better word is slightly enjoyable.
That Polite Leader is definitely the best character in the entire movie despite having less screen time than you might think due to the short runtime. The Purge has its moments but it's cliched and delusional.
