Review of The Punisher (2004) by Jecoliah S — 31 Mar 2012
God's gonna sit this one out.
Enjoyable if not implausible.
The Story: A former FBI agent seeks revenge for the murder of his family... Not just his family, his ENTIRE FAMILY... After getting the crap beat out of him he manages to walk away with no real cuts, bruises, burns, scratches, or any real broken bones. The entire film is one massive implausible and impossible scenario, and it's dark sense of humor makes it easier to laugh an harder to take seriously. That's not saying it's without entertainment value, it's got a good sense of style, a fast pace, and a healthy amount of action... It's just a little over the top... Okay, a lot over the top.
The Cast: Thomas Jane, John Travolta... Tom Jane is the Frank Castle AKA: The Punisher, you're all American anti-hero. He's not out to save to the world or stop fight crime, he's just out kill those who killed his family, because he killed some guy at the beginning of the film... That make sense?... He gives a good performance here, overall his performance is as strong as the character he's portraying. He definitely makes the film. John Travolta is Howard Saint, the gangster that has the entire Castle family killed. Blame the writing or Blame Travolta, either way you look at it, he gives a lackluster performance. Not the smartest villain, not the strongest villain, just your average villain.
One to Five Scale: 3.
Good action all around, but laughable dialogue and characters keep it from achieving that 4 status.
Tyler.
