Review of The Public Enemy (1931) by Adam R — 20 Aug 2015
This is a quintessential gangster film that all other gangster films were based on. Sure, it's dated. But it still holds up for some classic pre-code scenes that wouldn't be seen again in a while.
Jean Harlow has a very small, but very memorable role ("the men I know, and i've known dozens of them..") and Mae Clark has been entrenched in cinematic history by having a grapefruit smashed in her face.
