Review of The Proposition (2005) by Tristan P — 17 Jun 2008
I'm not at all a fan of westerns, but this is easily one of the two or three best westerns I've ever seen. I'm also not a fan of Guy Pearce, but he's not really in this all that much, and when he is in it he doesn't do a hell of a lot. Superb acting from the always great Ray Winstone, and another fantastic villain created by Danny Huston. Emily Watson provides excellent support, but John Hurt goes a bit too far over the top (in fact he over acts so much I almost thought I was watching William Hurt...).
Compelling direction by John Hillcoat; there are a couple of sequences that willstay in my memory for a long time.
