Review of The Proposition (2005) by Joe X — 23 Aug 2008
Great cinematography, great cast, but a great Western? Not really. The film focused too much on characters I didn't care about, especially the captain and his wife, when it should have followed Guy Pearce.
The most interesting scenes always involved him, both thematically and visually. Anytime the camera wasn't on him, the story drifted. Despite this, this was a very dark and violent Western that changed things up a bit from the "traditional" American Western films, but I wouldn't consider it a modern classic or anything.
